Need Help Please!!!!

ok so i have a g3 ibook and something is wrong with my logic board. I'm a student and NEED to get my files off of my ibook. is there anyway i can transfer all of my files on to an external hard drive ( so i can have use my files that i need until i can buy a new computer) with out being able to see the screen? is there some kind of comand i can put to get all of my files???? I'm freaking out and it would be amazing if someone out there could help me out. thank you very much and have a nice day!

Whats a logic drive? Either you mean logic board or hard drive. If you have another Mac, try booting into firewire disk mode.

transferring your files via firewire is really the only way to do it, assuming you meant that your logic board failed, if however your hard drive is bad, something like disk warrior may be able to fix it.

If you logic board is dead firewire probably will not work. Depends on what part of the board is done. But probably not. So your best option may be to pull the drive and put it into a external firewire case.

i agree take ut the drive and put it in a external hard drive case around 40-200 dollars depending where you get it, they work great.

i meant logic board. and its kind of old it's a g3 2002 ibook 800mhz. it has happened to me before but im no longer under my apple care warranty

Why do people keep using the term logic board? The motherboards inside all of Apple computers are just that, motherboards, I see no need to refer to them as logic boards (yes I know its kind of an apple term).

I actually prefer the term motherboard, guess Macphiles will do anything to alineate from PCs huh?

yeah...go get an external enclosure for your hdd and then you can transfer you files to where ever you want. If you mean that your laptop will still start up but you cannot see anything on your screen and your ports still work..then hook up to an external monitor ...but the way it sounds to me is that none of teh ports on your computer would work if you have logic board/motherboard failure. The only solution is to take out the hdd and get an enclosure or someone willing to place it in their notebook and transfer the files off it.

It probably has its historical reasons. I'm also used to motherboard, but I do understand the term logic board.

I think logic board is more descriptive, since I don't really see the motherboard having any offspring that are similar in nature only smaller in a computer.

If you want to get your ibook replaced/repaired- i have heard of instances where apple customer relations will grant you a "special extension" on the logic board replacement program, you should call and see if you can get it fixed.
But take out the HD and get it backed up somewhere first...
