Here's the thing: Apple Care walked me through how to reinstall my OS, but they made me reinstall to Mountain Lion and I was not prepared to do so. I want back on Lion to copy things that are not present in Mt. lion.

Here are my questions:

1) I have always made Time Capsule backups of my system. If I restore from those backups will I restore Lion? How do I do that?

2) I followed a tutorial way-back-when on making a recovery disk of Lion, but apparently I did not do it right or am following the wrong directions. My disk has 6 files/folders on it — Install Mac OS X Lion, Library, a media png background, Packages, private, System. I tried holding down the C key while the computer restarted without any luck.

4) If I somehow successfully get back to Lion what type of recovery thingy should I make and where can I find a good reliable tutorial since apparently something went wrong.

Help!! Please and thank you for any responses!!

The C key is for starting from a CD Or DVD in your optical disk drive (ODD). Hold down the OPTION/Alt key instead or go to System Preferences > Startup Disk to see, if the Lion installer on the USB flash memory thumb drive is bootable.
Once you boot into it, you use Disk Utility to erase the internal HDD/SSD with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on and install Mac OS X 10.7 Lion onto it.

I tried what you suggested, but it didn't work. The tutorial I followed was much like http://macs.about.com/od/macoperatingsystems/qt/Create-A-Bootable-Copy-Of-Os-X-Lion.htm where I made a bootable DVD (or at least I thought I did) of Lion.

I followed the steps for loading from a bootable DVD after clicking through links via the link you posted and everything seemed to be going okay, but now it's stuck about 1/4 away from a full progress bar. It estimates 22 min, then adds more and more time to the estimation. I think it got stuck. It hasn't moved for a long while now.

Are the files I listed even the right file for booting if I copy them to a flash drive? I tried that and it showed up, I selected it, and it took my to the regular desktop in OS 10.8+. Does it have to be the InstallESD.dmg?

I'm confused and concerned I'll never get back on Lion.

EDIT: Nevermind. It finally moved. I guess I jumped the gun. Seems to be doing its thing without any problems so far.

Thank you very much for your help!
