Need help setting up my iPhone

Okay, so I got it, it's beautiful, fun, and I don't know what I'm doing.

First:

I cannot connect to my home's wireless network. It asks me for my password, I input it, and it tells me I'm unable to join. I know the password is correct because I set it up.

Second:

I have a Gmail account set up on there and it's downloading ALL of my previous messages. Anyway to set it to only download new messages that come in?

Third:

Speaking of email, what is "Recent Mode" and why would I want it on/off?

Any help you forum geniuses can provide would be greatly appreciated.

1... I would double check your password... capital letters maybe?

2... Yes you can set your gmail up to do that, but you need to do it in your account settings at gmail.com

I've already looked and can't figure it out. Mind pointing me in the right direction?
