Hi everyone
My MacBook Pro 16” was just delivered to me two weeks early! Nice surprise!

I was trying to set up the computer when I came to this screen (pic attached) asking me for the passcode for my iPad. But I don’t use a passcode on my iPad! What am I supposed to do? And why does it want my passcode anyway?

This is just to verify it is actually you.

How many iPads do you own in total? You can check where and on what devices your Apple ID is is being used.

under settings / your name / devices

Oh it’s a security check? I thought it wanted a password for the iPad itself. Thank you I’ll see if I can figure it out

Look like you need to check that you didn't put in two factor login! When you setup did you check the box for two factor?
No, 2FA is always six digits.

When you are asked to re-enter Apple ID in macOS Settings, which can happen after installation or sometimes after signing out and in again, it usually (but not always IME) then asks for your user ID password, and sometimes the passcode of iPad or iPhone. There can be quite long gaps between entering your Apple ID and being asked for user pw and iPad/iPhone code.
