Ok guys I have an old 2010 iMac that I did a factory reset on. I installed OS X 10.5.8 and now I want to upgrade to latest software such as adobe safari and others. I cannot update any of the software because I need to update. I have bought snow leopard before to update it when I first did a clean install but I sent to have misplaced it. What do I need to do. Thanks in advance.

If you want to "upgrade to latest software such as...", then upgrade to the system that you want. 2010 iMac can go to 10.13.6 (High Sierra), but won't boot to Leopard, AFAIK. 2010 iMac starts with Snow Leopard.
Which iMac do you really have? You can quickly check in the Apple menu/About This Mac.
If all is good, and you just want to upgrade to newest possible, there's no reason to go through intermediate upgrades, such as Snow Leopard, just download the latest that your iMac can use, and install that.

That’s all it says. I’ve tried clicking on new software from downloads from apple site but it doesn’t let me click em. Some sites don’t even load up correctly. On some sites it says safari cannot open the site

That’s probably a 2008 iMac. The newest operating system it can run is El Capitan, version 10.11.6. That’s still quite out of date and isn’t going to run the latest apps either.

True, but El Capitan is a massive jump from Leopard tho.. I would use a patcher and go for High Sierra.

Vintage Mac collector here... you'll find any OS below 10.13 High Sierra to be awkward, frustrating, and virtually unusable with today's internet. Even basic websites will give certificate failures and won't load in Safari under 10.11 El Capitan anymore. Don't even try getting Leopard/Snow Leopard online. I love old Macs but, honestly, do you want a new hobby keeping it going, or do you want a computer that "just works"? Cuz when the old freezer doesn't freeze anymore it's time to unplug it and get one that works.

I surf with El Capitan and Firefox ESR. No problem. It is true I do it on an Imac 2011.

I even surf the net with Tiger and it is not the browser what causes problems but the lack of RAM (in the iBook G4).

Generally the biggest problem is you rapidly consume all your RAM as every tab will keep its history.
For todays use I consider 8 GB of RAM to be enjoyable, 4 is a bit of pain, 16 is really confortably.
If he can get 8 GB in that iMac, than it is usable with El Capitan. Maybe also an SSD into it. (I personally would put Win 8.1 onto it.)
