Hi every one.

I have an iphone 3g JB 2.1 . I want to upgrade to 2.2 so that I can use yellowsnow to unlock.

I have read several online guides but I am very confused. I am also trying to keep all my current cydia and appstore applications.
I have used aptbackup and chronus and I have manually saved all IPAs to my desktop which I will later install via SSH.

Do I just use shift + restore and restore to FW 2.2 (iphone 2.1 2.2 5g77.ipsw)
this file is 246MB. I got this file from iclarified.com . But http://www.quickpwn.com/2008/11/firmware-22-download-links.html

this links says Caution if you upgrade to iPhone 3G 2.2 you won’t be able to unlock your iPhone 3G)

can some body please , post some instructions on how I could upgrade to 2.2

I will be very gratefull.
thanks

Seriously, try reading around a little :p

2.2 is FINE to update to and use for unlocking, infact, you can't use yellowsn0w on anything less than the 02.28.00 baseband (that came with 2.2) as far as I am aware.

It's 2.2.1 you don't want to update to without a custom IPWS.

Oh, and AptBackup is real easy to use, just open the app, tap backup, sync with iTunes, then do your restore, upgrade, and jailbreak, then restore your previous backup from iTunes, download AptBackup from Cydia again, and tap restore. All of your JB apps SHOULD come back.
