Need help using smcFanControl

I'm a total noob when it comes to Macs I just got my first one this week, so forgive me if I am doing something completely wrong.

Ok so I download smcfancontrol2.1.2, I then drag the folder from downloads onto the apllications folder. I open the folder and double-click the smc icon but nothing happens. But for what ever reason the program is open because when ever I try and drag it to the recycling bin it says it can't be moved because it is open.

I was having the same issues while trying to download the wow.ace.updater for World of Warcraft, I double click the folder in the downloads section and it unzips an icon onto my desktop, i double-click that and a window pops up telling me to drag that into the applications folder, but after doing that if i double-click the icon with in the applications folder the same little window pops up (the one telling me to drag the wow.ace.updater into the applications folder).

I'm sorry if that was a bit confusing, but I'm at a loss as what to do next and any help would be greatly appreciated.

smcFanControl doesn't have an application "window" like most other programs.

Look at the bar on the top of your screen, towards the right side. You should see a temperature, followed by an RPM reading.

Click this to open smc's options.

I play WoW for long periods of time for raids non-stop, so I'm just being precatious so my new shiny mac doesn't get too hot. I'm using a widget called iStat and I've seen the temps go up to 150F on some components, that may be totally normal but since I'm not sure I'd rather be safe than sorry down the road.

The Airport Card seems to be the component that gets the highest. Personally, I try to not let it get above 140F.

To that end, I run all 3 of my fans at 1800RPMs. My Airport Card is currently sitting at 133F with an ambient temp of 77F.

Hard drive temps?

I set my hard drive fan to 2500 rpm
After about 1-2 hrs of basic internet surfing, etc the temp of the "HD BAY" is 52 deg C ... should I be worried about that? if not, what should I consider the "safe max" temp for the HD?

Power supply is at 77 deg C
CPU at 44 deg C
GPU diode at 59 deg C
GPU heatsink 51 deg C
Optical drive 46 deg C

I guess what I'm looking for is - what is a reasonable "maximum temp" for each major component.
i know the values will be debated by some, but usually there is a mid range that most ppl agree with

I think Apple's engineers know what a reasonable maximum temp is for the components in your iMac.

Playing around with the fan speeds is unnecessary in my opinion. I'd be wary of installing mods that do so.
