Need help - Will this work

I have a mid 2010 mac pro and I came across the intel x5660 6 core 2.8Ghz Xeon which is the same socket but it is not the same 6 core as apple uses, but I just want to know if it will work, I have the 2.8ghz quad core with 3gbs of 1066mhz ram at the moment.

Thanks.

Risky strategy but it might just work. I'd say it will probably work but it will be a difficult upgrade.

I have the same mac and might be interested in upgrading to a hex, in part due to all the peeps on this thread poo pooing the quad.

Anyway, I think the x5660 is mainly different in that it can used in pairs (on a dual socket motherboard) while the w3680 is meant to be used singly.
