Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area...
So I called Drobo's support line and of course they blamed the router: my new airport extreme.
Basically, I use my Drobo FS plugged into the router as a home media network share.
It seems like after being idle for a while, the Drobo is not readily recognized by only some programs - namely plex and the Drobo dashboard. I am able to access files via finder at all times. As this problem does not occur when plugged directly to my imac, and alway goes away after a restart of either the imac or the drobo, it seems there is something w/ either the router settings or the mac software settings.
Also, I have my firewall turned off.
Any thoughts?
