I noticed today that all 5 of my photographs came out with the focus on one individual - blurring others in the composition. Why is this? Is my focus point incorrect? What is the technique for getting the entire picture sharp?

This was shot at f/8, which I assumed would be enough for a tack-sharp photo. Obviously, it's user error but what did I do wrong?

I think she moved. Just burst a few frames, should help you in getting good shots. If you look at her shirt, it's perfectly sharp. and with f8, you're right, she Should be sharply in focus.

seems like motion blur, but the image is a little too small...

do you still have the EXIF?

It's a low shutter speed for sure, she may have twitched slightly...post your EXIF so we can get a definitive answer. Heck at F4 I think both would be in focus (Don't quote me on that).

I agree. This image looks like Motion Blur, not a focus issue. DOF is relative to distance to subject. F/8 is more than ample, to have these two people in focus. I usually shoot at 2.8/4/ or 5.6 at the most, when shooting people. Definitely, let us know, what your settings were.

Going back and looking at the EXIF, I believe you guys found my answer.

f/8, 1/6, ISO 800, 42mm

Motion blur had to have been the issue. Guess I need to invest in a SpeedLite ;)
