Hi Guys,

I'm fairly new to designing but my company has trusted me with a small project. First task is to create a prototype design of the app we're thinking of developing. being a total noob and the in-house devs not telling me anything, i created the assets and all the graphics on Photoshop cc2017 artboard based on 1 resolution which is my Note 5-1440x2560. Now, they're telling me that we need different resolutions for both Android mdpi - xxxhdpi and IOS x1 x2 x3.

is there a way for me to do this using my existing file or i have to do a render for each resolution, perhaps i should hand in my resignation letter? pls help :(

thanks in advance..

Not an artist but usually this is done by building large versions of the assets and downsizing them for the x1, x2, x3 versions for iOS. In reality you can probably get by with only the x2 versions, certainly true for a prototype.

For the app icons there are some free tools that will generate all the required sizes from a single large file. Need to google for those tools.

This is retrospective, but you should absolutely be using a vector based graphics tool like Illustrator or (my preference) Sketch.

Pixel-based rendering and downsizing is neither an efficient nor long term solution due to changing screen resolutions and densities.
