was finally able to get an iphone last thursday and i've been having a blast with customizing settings and installing apps on it, however i've run into a few problems that i can't seem to find solutions for

1. customized ring tone for text messages won't work!
really disappointed that i can't use a "customized" ring tone for "new text message"
does anyone know/is there a way to add customized/custom converted sounds under the "new text message" list?

2. any possibility of using custom sounds for "new voice mail", "new mail", etc.

3. sending pictures vis SMS
i get the "www.viewmymessage.com/1" every time someone sends me a SMS with a picture attachment, i follow the link, enter the username and password, and so far it's been rejecting it every time

4. synchronizing contacts
for some reason it won't synchronize all my contacts, it syncs most of them but a select few get left out, but if i enter them in the phone first, then go directly to the address book

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

For 1 & 2 you have to jailbreak. Once you do that, changing SMS tones is pretty simple. Here's a guide for that: http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-modifications/text-message-sound-21267.html

Changing the mail and voicemail tones is similar, you just need to SSH into the appropriate directory and replace the files with whatever tone you want. Do some googling to find out what the files you need to replace are.

3. No idea why it's rejecting you... but proper MMS is coming in OS 3.0

4. Check your sync settings in iTunes... not really sure beyond that

any idea what it means if it tells you "failed to enter DFU mode"?
keep pressing the buttons and holding them down as instructed, but doesn't seem to be effective

I am assuming you are attempting a jailbreak? If you are using a Mac you should update to 10.5.7 first.

yep, running 10.5.7
made sure everything was updated before i attempted jailbreak, still nothing :(
