Hi all...

I seem to be running into an odd issue, which I have never come across before.

I have a home wifi network which supports a number of devices including my IPP 10.5 (running iOs 11.1.2).

Over the last 24 hours (before this it was fine), I noticed the Mail app trying to "check mail" but unsuccessfully. The only mail account I have added to the iPad is my Outlook.com account (which serves as my primary email). I downloaded the Outlook app from the Store and it works fine on the home wifi network.

Now, here is the thing. When out and about I tether my iPad to my phone and it works brilliantly. Today I noticed that when I switch the network from the home wifi network to the phone's data, the Mail app updates and does it thing as it should. But when I go back to the home wifi network, it refuses to update mails. I have tried this a number of times to verify.

In short, the Mail app works fine when connected to the phone's data but not to the home wifi network. In the meantime, I have reset the network connections, switched on and off the IPP. Nothing seems to help.

Again, I reiterate that 24 hours back it was all fine. Btw, no issues with other devices using the same home network (I have 1 Surface Pro 4, 2 Surface 3 (non pro), 2 Android phones, and 2 Windows phones. All work just fine (where checking and updating mails are concerned) on the home wifi network. Its only the Mail app on the IPP that is having a problem. One other point: All other apps on the IPP (for eg. Safari, Liquid Text, iBooks etc etc) work just fine.

Any ideas on what I can do? (I should mention that despite the Mail app being a bit barebones and all, I still prefer it to the Outlook app and other competing mail apps).

Thanks in advance.

Not a sure thing but even though other apps and devices are working the signs point to an issue with your home network…so you need to verify that it is set up properly.

However…how is the Outlook.com account set up on the IPP? If it’s not as “Exchange” give that a shot.

Thanks. I did check the home wifi network and it works fine. I have not tried setting up my outlook.com account as Exchange. Will try and revert.

Edit: This very interesting. I did as you advised and it worked! Thanks very much!! But why? My outlook account is not an Exchange account.

It functions as one. I believe this is now Microsoft's preferred way. Log into your webmail account and see all the associated Exchange compatible features.
