My neighbors M1, it is the 16/8/512 spec, has an odd issue. It’s very slow to boot, and once it does boot you can see everything on the drive through file menus or going into Launch Pad, but if you click on any menu it says unable to load. For everything, you can’t even load the System Settings. It also will not back up. It sees his back up drive but won’t open it. Disk utility won’t work. I am wondering is it hardware, software, or is his SSD gone bad. He has had it since new. It’s the family computer. I opened it up no signs at all of water damage or anything odd like that. What are your thoughts?

1) Create a new user - If the same issues aren’t present, then you know you have a corrupt user account. If the new user account does the same, proceed to option 2.

2) I would try and make sure he has any important files backed up and then I would perform the ‘erase all content and settings’ command, and then set up as new.

We are going to wipe it. A new user account was the same. Will update tomorrow. Thanks Robert.
