Settings->Notifications->Not in Notification Center Then pick one(twitter or facebook in this case) and update notification details as you wish

Click to expand... not quite true. it depends on your twitter client. i use tweetbot, and told it to notify me on @replies, @mentions and @DMs. works like a charm. havent tried the native twitter app yet.
