Need help with pricing older iMac

I found an older iMac G5 on craigslist, the guy was asking $900, I emailed him and said that is insane, so what is it worth, what year was this model made?

yeah, truly insane. but someone who didn't know better might be like OMG, it's an imac for only $900!

that thing was made either in late 2004 (imac G5) or early 2005 (imac G5 ALS 'ambient light sensor') and either way, it would be worth no more than $350-400 if it was mint with all the original box and everything. ebay has the next model with the isight built in for $449 shipped as a benchmark.

the other problem with that deal is that the original 1.6 and 1.8 imacs had major failure problems due to power supplies and faulty capacitors. don't buy that thing unless you love to solder! best of luck either way.

Thanks!!! And no I do not solder!! I emailed him and he said make an offer, wow if I write back and say $150 he will be insulted! But thats all I would pay, esp when you can get the one with isight for $449 on ebay
