I'm using one of Doug's Applescripts to convert my iTunes files to 128kb AAC files, and deleting the old iTunes file as it goes along.

I select iTunes with the Apple script Get Selected iTunes. I'm running 2,700 tunes in the selected playlist, and I let it run all night when it ran about 900 processes. The iTunes library showed the right conversions and resultant additional harddrive space, and it updated the iPod correctly. However, my harddrive space is nil. I tried to empty trash to no avail. I closed iTunes, Applescripts, and everything else running, then emptied trash - that seemed to work as about 7g of HD space was opened up on my 40g iBook. However, when I opened iTunes and Applescripts to run the process on more files, the HD space disappeared again. I tried repairing permissions and restarting my iBook but it didn't help. The duplicate songs don't show up in the iTunes library.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!

EDIT: I looked in the iTunes folder via Finder, and found some of the tunes I know I have converted, and lo and behold the duplicate files are there! However, they don't show up in iTunes! Any ideas?

I have a feeling that the script isn't really deleting the old files, just removing them from the library. Of course the script could be modified to actually delete the files, but it might take a little work. If you don't want to modifiy the script, just convert smaller chunks and delete the old files manually after each chunk.

Another thought occurred to me...I created a Playlist to select as the files I wanted deleted. It's probably deleting the songs from the playlist but not the Library. Although as I say that, I realize the duplicate songs aren't showing up in iTunes as duplicate (or showing up at all).
