Hey,
I've installled OS X Yosemite Beta yesterday and I seem to have problem with the following apps:

1. Spotlight:
According to what i've read, using spotlight should give me results from the web/wikipedia/maps and so on. For some reason, it seem to work just like old spotlight, searching only last hits on safari/docs on mac, and files... (yes, i'm using the big spotlight which appears in the middle of the screen).
If anyone knows how to fix that, i'd be very grateful!

2. Messages:
I'm trying to send normal text messages - when i pick a contact who hasn't got iMessage (a Nexus user for instance), it does indeed show on the text line "Text Message" instead of "iMessage", however, after writing and pressing enter, it just disappears and doesn't send} anything.. I do have both iPhone and Mac on the same Wi-Fi and they're both connected to the same iCloud account.
If anyone knows how to answer calls as well, then share your knowledge!

3. Safari
when opening new tab (using cmd+T), i'm used to write the web address straight away, but now it seems like it doesn't start on the website search by default? You have to actually click on it and just then start the search/going to web?
I know it's beta and stuff, but I wonder if everyone has it and if someone thought of a solution somehow :p

Anyway, if anyone can help me, especially with the first 2 issues, i'd be very grateful!

cheers.

All 3 issues are bugs that others are experiencing as well.

1) this seems to be working for me, I searched 'toast' and the first result was 'toast sandwich' on Wikipedia.

2) Is your iPhone also running the iOS 8 beta? If not, it can't handle the request which is why it's not working.

3) There are many, many problems with Tabbing in Safari - most of them will have been submitted to Apple already, and will probably be fixed come the next Dev Preview, certainly before the release date.

Well, I don't have iOS 8 beta, because I have an old iPhone 4 (waiting to buy iPhone 6), so that explains.
Can you maybe send screenshot of your spotlight settings? (through system settings and stuff?)
I attached mine, and as you can see, I don't have wikipedia/maps or anything on the search options..

My settings look like yours and Wikipedia results pop up. Maybe reindexing Spotlight will help. Sorry for not being more helpful.

There's my results for toast :p

Apple suggests the following method for re-indexing: Playing with Spotlight Privacy settings (clickable!)

Oh and by the way, easiest way to take a screenshot of one window only, is cmd+shift+4 then the space bar. You will see a camera icon, and it will highlight the current window green. It will only grab the window highlighted in green, even if it behind other windows. Also, if you don't press space, you can use the crosshairs to grab a portion of the screen too.

i've followed the re-index - adding all the MACINTOSH HD drive, and then removing it.
now, although i removed it from the list, the spotlight doesn't find anything, even in my comp.. as if the MACINTOSH HD drive is still there on the privacy list

Whoa that's really strange then. Do you want to try just totally blitzing the Spotlight preferences file?

Go to ~/Library/Preferences (you may need to hold Option and use the Go menu to navigate to Library, as per your own settings). Move the com.apple.spotlight.plist file to the Desktop, just in case. Try Spotlight - if it behaves as you'd like, just bin the file you moved to the Desktop. If it doesn't, put it back :)

Hope this helps more!

Okay... might be time to try repairing permissions in Disk Utility (under Applications > Utilities)

In the panel on the left, select your Yosemite drive (not the parent drive) then click the button in the lower centre that says Repair Permissions.
