Need help with SSH tunneling

I'm trying to create a tunnel to be able to play online games on the wifi at work (I know, I know... but I have a 6 hour break between blocks of work!). I've failed to understand how to do that in Terminal...

Can anyone help me out?

I am also a bit curious to hear that I am not sure that a SSH tunnel is what you really want. An SSH tunnel allows you to connect a series of local computer ports to remote ports/addresses using a server that can access those remote ports. So

1. You need a server (e.g. at home) that you can access (fixed IP or DNS, no blacklist)
2. That server needs access to the remote service you str tying to access
3. The application you want to use can be configured to use local ports instead of its default server

If your work IT is blocking addresses/ports that your game uses, a better and easier solution is to use a VPN to a network where the game is not blocked. If you have a computer at home that you can access from work (and quick internet), you can set up VPN there .

Hello,

Hmmm. I may have confused SSH and VPN. My friend explained them to me really quickly on the phone and it seemed simple.

Here's what I want to do: I wanna play on the private WoW server nostalrius from my workplace. The IT guys at work have blocked just about everything except the web (can't even access email using Mail). Based on the info I found on the server's forum, I need to access these two IP addresses and ports:
178.33.122.86, port 3724
5.196.82.39, port 8089

My friend made it sound as if overriding these blocks would be easy... Is it?
