I just purchased and set up an ATV2. It has been set up on my network. AirPlay option on the onscreen menu is turned on. I also have Airport Express on my network with Harmon Kardon speakers connected. When I play videos using Apple TV, I want the audio to come out of my HK speakers, but it's not working! Please help.

Hooking the HK speakers up to the :apple:tv is the best solution.

My goal is to not connect speakers to the TV or Apple TV (or Macbook). The speakers are connected to the networked Airport Express so that it can be accessed by the Macbook and, hopefully, by the Apple TV.

The :apple:tv streams networked audio better than the Express. Buy another cable and use them both.

I don't see how this would work - nor do I see why you'd want to do it this way? The ATV is a perfectly good alternative to the Airport Express. With the speakers hooked to the ATV, you get audio from the tv, and can send audio from any other computer or iOS device just like the AE. Hook up the AE to a second set of speakers in another room.

Don't have an Atv2 but I do a lot of airplay streaming in my house. To the best of my knowledge you can not stream audio from a video to an airport express. Airport express is audio only, for Audio only files.

Good luck to you...

I don't have an ATV, just an Airport Express connected to the amp in my living room.

I just fired up a You Tube clip on my phone, selected "Living Room" for the audio and it's now playing as I type this post.

HTH.

OP, I don't think you have a very good understand of :apple:tv. It streams audio in the same way as the Express does, and in the two months I've had it, it works much better than the Express did. Depending on your receiver, and how many digital/RCA inputs it has, and it's proximity to both :apple:tv and the Express, you can use both if you want to. Personally, I do not understand your insistence on keeping your audio equipment attached to the Extreme. Why did you by the :apple:tv? If your goal is to stream a movie from iTunes, and to have the video sent to the :apple:tv and the audio sent to the Extreme, this is not possible. I am streaming music to my :apple:tv from my MBP right now, in exactly the same way I was able to stream it to my Express. I can also start playing a movie, straight from my Mac to the :apple:tv when I want to. Just unplug your cable form the Extreme and give the :apple:tv a go.
