Hey i have a powermac G5. its the third time , when im using firefox it crashes. then when i boot up all of my settings are gone. My destop settings, screensavers and all my bookmarks in firefox. what the heck is goin on.

Slow down, it helps if you give a better title that helps explain your problem.
"Help, I keep loosing my preferences.", might have been a better title. Need help!! does nothing to direct the right kind of help your way.

That aside, we need more information.

Is this your third G5 because others were bad, have you upgraded 3 times, is it one of 3 Macs? How are you logging in? Did you choose the wrong account?

Have you tried reinstalling FireFox?

What screen savers are/were you running?

I miss read you. I saw a low case letter and attached it to your first sentence.

So you have one G5, and the problems you are having you have had 2 or 3 times before. Your FireFox keeps crashing.

What account are you logging into? I think you may have logged into the wrong account.

Perhaps the problems are not connected, or perhaps they are.

Are you logging in by typing your name, automatically, or by using an icon?

Have you done anything that would cause this, like re-installing OSX, had a failed instal of something, used terminal to do clean up, etc...?

When you log into OS X does you machine automaticly open into the Finder, or is there a screen asking you for you Name or a screen that gives you a set of account names with icons and also asks for a password?

If you logged into you machine using a diffrent account, you settings, bookmarks, etc... would look as though they were gone.

As far as FireFox crashing- that's weird. Have you tried a re-install?

Finder --->System Prefs-->System->Accounts>
What account are you in?

Is anything listed for Other Accounts (Password Tab)

Click the lock at the bottem to unlock this pain. If it asks for a password, type your Admin password.

Now click the House Icon "Login Options"

Is Automatically long in as: selected?
If so, is it your account?

Display login window as:?
For ease - select List of users

Do you use Fast User Switching?
perhaps that is the problem?

Do other people use your computer?

If not, I am at a loss.

I will try that
But I am the only user.
i really appreciate your patience and help.

And there are no other accounts?
Weird. If you deleted an account it would make sense, but it sounds like you don't use multiple accounts. Do you use any maintenance utilities or scripts?

If not, and if you didn't trash your Prefs files, or part of your library folder, I can’t explain it.

If nobody posts any more advice, I would repost a thread (linking to this one) with detailed information. I hope I didn't kill your thread by responding too many times.

You said that you booted after firefox crashed right? Did it give you a 'unexpectedly quit' dialogue after it crashed, or did it give you an unresponsive screen/ gray overlay with multiple lanuages telling you to restart. If it is the latter, I wouldn't blame firefox.

In any case, for whatever reason your computer is not reading the files that you want it to: ie. preferences and screen savers. I need a little more info like 'Is it your personal screen savers that are missing, or apple's defaults, or all of them?'

I think I know what the problem is, but I need to know if It is the only one.

Thanks, and glad to help

Dumb point, I'm sure, since I doubt you wouldn't do this, but there have been two Firefox updates for the Mac version recently, and I believe at least one of them was specifically aimed at the intel chip, and the other to fix a glitch that the first one caused (rumor mill, I never looked into it). So make sure you have the most current version and the Firefox software update turned on (and again, sorry if this should be filed under "**** you already know" ;) ).
