So I have personal iPads and work iPads. I have my 12.9” iPad Pro 3, a mini 5 and some way older ones. I am looking at getting another iPad Pro (but not a 2018 or 2019 one due to price.) I’m looking at a brand new 9.7” iPad Pro for lower than $400. I would go for a 2nd gen 10.5, but I don’t like the white light bleed spot above the home button that many avid and casual iPad owners have said is a defect.
My 12.9” is essentially my main computer and so it stays put. I know the 7th gen or 6th gen regular iPads are great, but I want the speakers, better Apple Pencil interaction, laminated display, P3 gamut, and just overall the more features the Pro iPads have.
So, I’m just curious if y’all think a 9.7” Pro is still good in terms of price yet still powerful enough to maybe be my iPad to take out to do stuff on the go... hopefully last 1-2 years.
Any help is appreciated.

It’s still a powerful device, but it wouldn’t be on my list to purchase. That said, we don’t know how long iOS will continue to support it.

I’d normally discount something close to 4 years since it’s been released.

What iPad would you suggest? I don’t want to do the 6 or 7 as those processors are generally just a smidge faster than the iPad Pro A9X. They each have A10s right?
I wouldn’t mind a 2nd gen 10.5” IF there WASN’T a widespread weird light bleed issue.

The Pro 9.7 doesn't have ProMotion so Pencil lag is the same as on basic iPads.

The Pro 10.5 is $379 on Apple refurb so higher than that is too much for the Pro 9.7. Caveat is you're chancing the bright spot.

If you can stretch it, consider the 2018 Pro 11 which pops in and out of stock for $549 on Apple refurb. It's the best value after the Pro 10.5.

Buy an iPad Air 3 then.
I heard the Air 3 has the same issue.

Hmmm, that's a good idea.

*edit, can't find any iPad Pro 10.5" for anything less than $509.
I would rather stay below 400-350, so 11" may be out.
I don't care too much about the no promotion (it still is better than the 7 as it is laminated isn't it, and that helps with sensitivity a bit more.)
Maybe, I should have just asked if anyone here is still using the A9X iPad Pro, and if it's still working good.
I really like that model, and could find some deals for it, I guess my only options are the 7, 6, or Pro 9.7"... hmmm

Reloads probably occur more frequently but that seems to be par for the course on iPadOS 13. Even my Air 3 3GB and Pro 10.5 4GB reload.

Personally, apart from RAM management I have no performance complaints on the Pro 9.7 and use A9, A9X, A10, A10X and A12 devices interchangeably. I think the Pro 9.7 is too expensive at $350-400 though.
