I've read several threads concerning the MBP 17" 2.33ghz and Macmall has what seems to be a good deal on them as a closeout. ($2249.00)

I'm not doing anything very core intensive, CAD work with limited 3D needs, audio recording for theater and sound playback, lighting design for theater, and sufing the web, e-mail. I don't do much gaming or graphic design layout.

I wanted to know others opinions, if this would be a good computer for these needs. Are there any real troubles with this form factor? The only thing I have my heart set on is screen size... 17" is my only must have. I will not mind the extra weight. I'm currently using a G3 ibook 600 MHZ 14" and everything is ok, except audio playback during theater show, and screen size. (these old eyes don't see as well as they used to)

Any opinions would be great...

Thanks...:)

thats is the same one I bought, but with the glossy screen. I got it from apple website refurbished. Cant wait to get it. I think I made the rite choice

I have a 17" 2.33 for work, that I carry home in a backpack, and it's great. I also use a 15" SR at home, and it's great for what I use it for as well.

I think you'll be happy with the 17" as long as you don't mind the extra size and weight.

I think you will be very happy with it. I went from a 12inch 500mhz G3 iBook and it took a couple of days to get used to the size but I would not go back given the oppertunity. It is a great machine.

I got mine last Christmas only mine has the glossy screen. I use it every day at work since the PC I have here is about 4 years old. It's a great laptop and is super-fast at anything I do. I'm actually surprised that almost a year after purchasing my MBP that it's still near top-of-the-line (minus the video card and granted that Apple doesn't update it's line that frequently). I'm happy that I purchased mine when I did.

Thank you...

Thanks, everyone... I've looked at a few reviews that I hadn't seen before and with the input here... I am going to bite the bullet and purchase one... depending on how long it's been sitting in the warehouse I might have to deal with the battery...

any trouble with it, and I know where to ask questions... great bunch of people here!!

:)

Just got mine 2.33 glossy and I'm in love with it. Think I might sleep with it all cuddled up!! but then the GF might get mad :D

had mine for 2 days no and it works great. photoshop illustrator, flash scream at every task

I bought mine just a few weeks after they came out eleven months or so ago and I really don't have any issues with it. I wish they could use a metal stronger then Al but just as light, I wish you could down-scale the screen resolution without the blurry fonts, and I wish the chips didn't run so hot, but really it's one amazing machine all around. I don't think you'll go wrong with it.
