Hey guys, need some opinions about upgrading the mac mini. My primary use for this device is web surfing, word processing, email etc. Occasionally there is light movie/photo editing but not often.
Its also the movie library for my ATV. Move library is currently about 500GB and growing fast. Applications and non-media are under 50GB

Some may question why this is necessary... Well, Im a performance junkie and I've got the cash to burn..

My plan was to purchase a 256GB SSD (samsung 840 Pro) and keep both it and the current 1TB inside the mac mini - managing them independently. Using a 3 TB external drive as a time machine.

The other option is to spend close to the same amount of money on two 128GB SSDs and run them in raid0 for optimal performance. Keep the 3TB drive as a backup and add another external for media storage. Obviously there is optimal performance here.

If I do that, should I expect any major delays or issues accessing content from the external media drive through airplay on the ATV?

anyone have anything against two drives inside the mini from a temp perspective?

Thanks for your time

Bill W.

PS> My disk drive speed test of the factory 1 TB showed 86MB write and 88MB Read... ughhh

Well you're nearly doing the same as me.

2012 Quad Server

250gb Samsung evo SSD (Get the evo .. 180$ shipped so its way cheaper and it has about 10% less speeds which isn't crucial)

3tb external mybook from western digital for backups / downloads
1tb secondary slot for internal storage that needs to be accessed quicker.

I understand what you mean money to burn; i thought the same but the 250gb + 3tb external is a perfect match
