I realize these both models are discontinued by Canon since the companies now days update or announce new models every month or so.

Said that, in Canada I don't see a dramatic change in price for both of them.

I mean I found several online shops and store (bestbuy/futureshop) selling the SD1100 model under 200 Canadian dollars.

I found only few stores carrying SD880 model. Why is that? And the price is 299 Canadian dollars.

When I read the reviews I understood that the while SD1100 is a remarkable model for a PnS camera SD880 was improved and is better in many ways.

Few things that attract me to SD880 are Bigger LCD, Newer Processor, and 28mm wide angle.

After calling few local stores I'm getting this doubt about buying the discontinued models.

I am planning on saving up for a decent entry level DSLR asap! Please advice what to do.

You already had a thread. I told you to look at the Panasonic FX500 there.

Yes I saw your reply thank you! I checked it out and read bunch of review it truly is something I should consider in my list. I don't see a real difference in Panasonic FX500 and Canon SD 880 IS from just looking at the review...

Calm down and take some pix?

Umm... No camera to take the pictures with

Has anyone considered getting Panasonic FX500 or own one?? Any advice on between Panasonic FX500 and Canon SD 880 IS then?

Thanks in Advance!

It's important to actually try the cameras on hand, but that doesn't mean SERIOUS reviews won't give you a better idea of the image quality than any pics you take at the store.

The SD960 has even more too many megapixels on a tiny 1/2.3" sensor and no priority modes. I would never buy that.

Well I am a beginner to this Photography world. I assume what you are saying is a downside of those cameras with just too many megapixels but not good enough to support it. I asked you about this camera because other than SD1100 3 models SD 880, Panasonic FX500, SD 960 were very similar in a way. I am little confused since most of the review or recommendation says that SD 1100 is superb but also many say that SD 880 is more recent so its better and also has wide angle. I didn't intend to bring this PnS camera decision a huge deal since I would like to get into the DSLR world! I guess I can't have everything :p Wish SD880 or even Panasonic FX500 were little cheaper!

If we forget about the priority modes, check out the Fujifilm F100fd. It has more megapixels, but balanced by a larger sensor.
