Need some advice

I currently use the original iPhone (next month it will be close to 1,000 days old) and its definitely starting to feel its age.

Screen is less responsive, sleep button is broke, apps take longer to open up, text message chirp goes off then text message pops up a few seconds later, the screen blacks out sometimes, etc etc. Basically everything is slowing down and showing signs of not working the way it use to.

I updated to 3.1.3 and actually feel like the iPhone is worse now then before.

This phone may not make it till june/july and im only willing to extend my contract for the 4th generation iPhone. I have no desire to get the 3GS if i did i would have bought it last summer.

So my question is what should i do if this phone dies or becomes unusable before june/july? What is a cheap alternative or solution to hold me over till the the 4th generation iPhone.

Try not to drop it and baby it for the next 4+ months.
If not use an old spare basic phone till the new iPhone is out if your 2G dies.

Im pretty careful with the phone, I think its just getting old.

Really wish the 4th gen would come in June like last year but with the WWDC it seems like July.

My old phone is with Verizon, so it wouldn't work with AT&T.

Whats the policy with maybe extending my contract with a 3G and then returning it? Do they give you 30 days? and then make you pay the restock fee on return. That could help if this duds out in May/June.

If you did extend with a 3G or 3GS and returned it within the 30 day period you would have to pay a restocking fee. A better solution may be to find a cheap dumb phone on EBay or Craigslist, or even one of the cheap pay-go phones from Best Buy or Target.

You can even buy a $30 go phone from the ATT store itself and just insert your SIM. This has been mentioned to me numerous times by ATT employees in case you need to keep your phone safe when doing something like camping.
