Now that it appears Apple has made it very easy to move an eSIM from one iPhone to another, what downsides are there still to moving my primary line to eSIM? Can I use multiple eSIMs at the same time? (I'm aware of the 5G limitation, but any others I should be aware of?). Is there a still a limitation that only one esim can be active at a time?

I’m not sure of any downsides to moving your primary line to esim, but this question was asked and answered in the Apple Communities forum. I moved my primary line to esim and have not experienced any problems. I am not currently using the physical sim for another number.

You know, I actually had stumbled onto that link. But since it was from over a year ago, I wasn't sure that information was still current. Sounds like it is.

If I were to travel and turn off my primary esim to enable an international esim, does that screw up imessage or other iCloud based features that are associated with a given phone number?

I’m not sure how it would work for international travel, but when I activated my esim for my primary line, I assigned the services that I wanted to use with it. Maybe with each esim, it would work the same.

up until last week I had my primary (UAE) sim as an esim and my secondary Vodafone (UK) as a physical sim.

Both lines worked at the same time with dual signal bars. I could receive SMS and calls on each. When travelling I could switch the data between the two.

I then discovered that Vodafone offered esim so I changed my physical sim to esim. Assuming that everything would still work the same.

End result was 2 esim. I then discovered that with 2 esim I could not have them working at the same time in the way I describe. I had to switch between one or the other.

I have now reverted my UAE sim to physical and left the Vodafone as esim.

everything has returned to How I describe with both lines working at the same time.

Thank you for this. There are so many great eSIM options for travel nowadays, I think it makes more sense for me to keep my primary as a regular SIM. Thank you for your post!
