Ok, so take 2 is finally here. I've had my apple TV for about 6 months now & couldn't live without it. i ditched my complete DVD collection & DVD player & migrated everything to my Apple TV.

Now with the features of Take 2 I'm wondering, can i finally ditch my Satellite as well?

I don't really watch allot of TV & iTunes offers most of what I do watch with the exception of a few NBC shows. I am however a cable news junkie. i need my news fix daily which is one of the major things that's keeping me from taking the plunge fully.

I'm by no means a noob to apple or anything tech but I for the life of me I have never mustered up the interest to dive into Podcasts. Could Podcasts be the final piece I need to fill in the gap created by going straight Apple TV without Satellite? Can I subscribe to say MSNBC podcasts & not miss a beat?

Is there anything else that I may be overlooking when considering the switch?

ESPN, mainly Sportscenter. Any live sporting events. I have a very hard time living without those, but if you can I say go ahead.

You and I are in a similar fix. About the only thing I watch on live TV is newscasts.

Since ditching my expensive HDTV/DVD cable box, I've used the clear QAM tuner in my TV to watch CNN and MSNBC with the cheapest basic cable available ($13.50).

Pod casts are awesome for news, too, but they're a little dated -- even if it's just a few hours. We're used to news happening live, so while they're good for some things (NPR shows and the like), I can't get my live news fix that way.

That's where the free streaming of CNN on the web, the basic cable, and streaming NPR audio on the web come in.

So, I ditched by $120 cable bill, learned to do things in some different ways, bought a Miglia MiniTVHD, use my AppleTV all the time, and have saved some serious money in the long run. You can search these and other forums for ideas on how to make your technology work for you...
