Need some feedback about moving to Icloud

Sorry if I sound ignorant, I've been reading through various threads about moving to ICloud, and I just want to state my situation directly and be told what i need to do.

I have a Mac Pro 10.6.7, Macbook pro 10.6.8. And a Dell running Windows 7
I think the only thing I use mobile me for is syncing my calendar- I view it from all 3 of those computers. I don't use the calendar from my Iphone.

I use gmail for email, so that means it has nothing to do with this change, right?

So I go ahead and "move to the cloud" whatever that means, and continue operating status quo? I saw one thread says 10.6.8 is SL, and should be able to stay that way (?) What about 10.6.7?

What cost is involved.

Thanks for some patience in helping an ignorant. (I also use mobile me for an Iweb site, but I know what to do with that)

10.6.7 and 10.6.8 are both Snow Leopard machines. FWIW, you can upgrade your 10.6.7 machine to 10.6.8(the latest version of Snow Leopard) by clicking on the Apple symbol top left corner of your machine and hitting Software Update.

In theory, you need 10.7.2 or later to use iCloud. There are workarounds to sync iCal with Snow Leopard machines using the iCloud data iCloud and Snow Leopard, but they are not officially compatible. You should have no problem with your Windows machine being iCloud compatible.

You've only got 2 more days to get all your info off MobileMe and transfer it to iCloud. I just did it a few days ago and it was very easy, but you must do it by June 30. There is no cost associated with the move unless you need more than 5 Gigs of storage and from your description, you won't use nearly that much. Good luck

Thanks for the helpful response. I'll probably do it tomorrow when I have some free time. For academic purposes, I still have trouble getting my head around what actually happens: I've been worried about losing my calendar if I hit a snag in the move, but now I'm realizing/thinking the cloud is just for sync-ability? In other words, I would still be able to see my calendar on on the SL machines prior to workaround, they just won't update to be seen from one of the other machines. Or, if I only used one computer to view my calendar, moving to I cloud is moot point?
