Need some help with Apple TV 1st generation

My Apple TV memory is full, I only use it to store purchased TV shows, no photos, no music, no movies.
Many shows are NOT in my MacBooks iTunes because I bought them directly on the ATV.
What should the settings be on the ATV so that everything I buy on the ATV goes to my iTunes on my MBP when I sync?
I must be numb because I can't figure this out.

been a long time since I synced one of my ATV1's but I thought it did it automatically. With the new update of itunes, you can show all purchased content to download to another authorized library too.

1. Make sure your Apple TV and iTunes on your computer are synced.
(They both need to be on the same network for this).

2. Within iTunes go to your Apple TV under devices.

3. Adjust your settings so items purchased on your Apple TV are transferred into iTunes on your computer.

Or right click on the AppleTV icon in iTunes, and select transfer purchased content.
