so i have the mac mini laying around with the single core 1.5 processor, can i upgrade it to the t7600 or any other for that matter since its single core? or does that not make a difference and i can upgrade it? i dont mind keeping 2gb ram for now either. and while im in there should i replace hdd? if so can someone point me in the right direction.
thanks

Here's a good read on upgrading the processor in your Mac mini:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/faq_core/mac-mini-core-upgrade-processor.html

The short answer is that if you have a Mac mini that was released before the "Early 2009" version, you can rather easily upgrade the processor if you want.

The "Early 2009" version and later have processors that are soldered to the logic board.

With that said - if you want to upgrade a Mac mini of that vintage, it may be easier and more cost effective to just buy a newer Mac mini with a faster processor. The ram limitations in older minis are going to hurt your performance even if you put a much faster processor inside.

If you do decide to upgrade the processor, I would probably also take that opportunity to upgrade the HDD.

well If the mini is not to old you can put in a t7600 cpu. the 2008 to 2008 intel models will let you do it. if you have a 2006 core solo with a 1.66 cpu yes but you mention that your cpu is 1.5 if you look at wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macmini

you may have the one below

1.33 GHz or 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4 (7447A)

this 1.5 is not intel you can not put a t7600 in that machine as it is a ppc type.

the 1.5 may be a 2006 intel core solo you could upgrade that machine

from wiki

1.5 GHz Intel Core Solo (T1200) or 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo (T2300)
Upgradable up to an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 Ghz processor. Compatible processors: 2.00 GHz Intel T7200 SL9SF, 2.16 GHz Intel T7400 SL9SE, 2.33 GHz Intel T7600 SL9SD[27]

somewhere there is a link maybe 123macmini that shows how to flash the mobo of the 2006 mini and this allows the machine to use 4gb ram. well 3.1gb out of 4gb. i believe the op of that link turned a 1.66 core solo unto a 2.33 core 2 duo that could run lion! with 3.1gb of ram

this is the website
