So assuming you’re running both the iOS 11.2.5 beta and tvOS beta, can you tell Siri to play X song (from Apple music) on an Apple TV?

Example:

On my iPhone:

“Hey Siri, play Beats 1 Radio in the Office TV”

Then have the Apple TV that’s called Office TV (surpsrisingly, it’s connected to the tv in the office) be the output for that audio?

This is how I’ve imagined it in my head, but is this the way it works in reality?

I’m running the latest betas and tried this but it didn’t work. Beats 1 just played on my phone.
I’m not sure airplay 2 has been enabled in any beta so far though.

Right now you can select the Apple TV source in the now playing widget of control center. Once you do that, you can ask Siri on your phone to just play the music and it will start on your TV, not via airplay, but essentially as a remote control. Would be perfect if you could ask Siri to execute the whole action, which I presume is coming soon given HomeKit support in the protocol.

So you are saying airplay 2 is more like Spotify connect and chromecast then airplay 1? If my phone starts ringing the ringtone won't blast the speakers? Not all sounds from my phone is being sent over as before? Maybe that's only for Apple Music though. Since there is no Spotify app on Apple TV or the coming HomePod, it will probably act more like before.

As far as I can tell with AppleTV, 3D touching the music widget also brings up a separate box with my AppleTV. If I select that as a source, I can then tell Siri on my device to play X and it will do so on the TV via apple music. Phone calls do not interrupt the playback. I don’t have spotify so I cant guide you there.
