Need "stealth mode" recording for my 3GS

Background: I got the iPhone 2G on release day, never upgraded to the 3G, but just bought the 3GS when that came out. I had a jailbroken 2G and often used Cycorder and iPhoneVideoRecorder. I loved the feature of being able to turn off the display while recording because it allowed me to take relatively long videos without killing the battery. Also, it makes it easy to record video of concerts without having to conceal anything from venue security.

I am pretty bummed that those apps don't work on my 3GS because it is a feature that I used so often I almost feel like it was a downgrade in my video recording ability. Any thoughts on what I can do to get this functionality back? I have dabbled in iPhone programming but I guess I don't understand what the limitation is and why I can't use Cycorder or iPVR on my 3GS. It seems like it should be an extremely simple fix.

I'm sure an update will be released. The 3GS has only been out for a month.

Yep. I used to put the iphone in my front shirt pocket recording events in a strip club.
 
sadly i don't think this will ever occur due to the occasional few using it for the wrong reasons and spoiling it for the rest of us... :D
 
Yeah, I'm sure Apple would just love to be the company known for encouraging illegal concert and strip-club tapings, movie bootlegging, and voyeuristic up-skirt videos.

How would they be encouraging it? Right now you could still do the same thing with the screen on.

but with the option for having the screen off it would be far more inconspicous(sp?)

i'd be fine either way just because it would save battery life
 
What is the underlying reason that the current jailbreak video recording apps won't launch on the 3GS and how difficult is it to modify? I don't understand if this is a major to-do for the developers or if it's only a matter of a couple hours of code modification.
 
how do you switch off the display in Cycorder ? Or you're only able to do that in iphonevideorecorder.
 
yeah man i know exactly how you feel..i loved that feature in cycorder but now cycorder doesnt work on 3G S..

and i have mine jailbroken and backgrounder wont work with camera application cause i have tried as soon as it closes it stops recording..

and i know i have recorded something for a long time and it KILLLS the battery as well as makes the iphone very hot

i said something to saurik on twitter to see if he could add support for 3GS but i havent heard anything back.. maybe you and a few other people should say something to him also..the more people the better

i said something to saurik on twitter to see if he could add support for 3GS but i havent heard anything back.. maybe you and a few other people should say something to him also..the more people the better

I actually emailed him directly. He responded back asking why I wanted the app on a 3GS and I explained the situation and asked if he planned to release a compatible version. I never heard back after that, which was a few weeks ago. Anybody who wants this now or for when they upgrade should definitely email him a request. I'm sure it would make a big difference.

Don't need this personally, but I emailed him anyay for the funcionality. Haha shirt pocket is brilliant.

Ive emailed him about making a 720p app for the 3gs.
