Need strategy for new User

I just picked up a refurb iPhone and I should get it tomorrow. It will be my first iPhone experience! I've got until April 4th until my 2yr Vz contract expires and am wondering if it's worth setting up my iPhone using iTunes now, or wait until I can move my old phone # over sometime after April 4th.

I really don't want to change my old cell phone #.

Can my inexpensive 2yr old LG phone forward calls to my new iPhone? I can't seem to find that feature on the menus and I've long ago lost the book. (Don't make me go to the Vz store to ask!)

Can you not just stare at the iPhone for two weeks until your contract runs out?

Seriously, its not much longer of a wait, then you can keep your number.

Wait, my contract expired in 6 months and it was such a pain changing the # over, it took me 3 days because I had to wait for certain business hours I had to get all of this information, it wasn't AT&T it was all Verizon, so Just wait

Can the phone be made to function as a movie viewer, wifi web portal without the phone function until April 4th?
