need to activate a used phone

I have a used iphone 1.1.1 unlocked
I installed my Cingular/Att sim card and it works great PHONE WIFI, except i have NO data plan,,, to get a data plan they say i must activate phone.

when i conect to itunes it doesn't ask me to pick a plan or to activate
Some say I need a NEW sim card

Q. How do I get a data plan?

Just go to an AT&T store and ask for a new sim-- once you insert it, you will be able to activate your phone and choose your plan

Its specific to Att and you. Are you currently an Att customer?

yes .... the sim says cingular ......
