Hi all,

I'v recently bought a Macbook, and I love the damn thing, I find myself time and time again using it over my PC. I need to upgrade the Windows machine anyway and I am considering saying sod it and just getting a decent iMac, the top of the line one in the UK retails at about £1450, which is pretty tempting, but I will probably end up getting this in the long term (four months or so as I understand that this model is due for an update.

However, next month I plan on buying a Mac mini (whilst I sell all my PC related stuff, and later on I have plans to connect it up to an HDTV.) I am really unfamiliar with the Minis though, or whether they will be updated soon, or if it is worth buying one now outright. They retail at about £400 over here, which to me is a pretty nice price, will the new mini (if there is one) be released at around this price, as to be honest it's all I'd really like to spend. As I said, it's going to be connected to a TV in the end, and I won't really be doing much on it to stress the components, that and I'd also like to get it as soon as I can.

What do you guys think?

if you are not using it for more than just a media center. There's no reason not to get one now. They are fairly cheap still and still great machines for a media center.. enjoy . I just set one up for one of my buddies he never knew what a mac mini could do. It's a 1.83 c2d on a 42 inch panny.

a mini was my first mac and i loved the thing....they are a perfect computer for a media center in my opinion but are a little lacking as a desktop main computer

I have to say I'm gonna pass on the macbook wheel, there is no way I am going to type anything like that.

Personally I would wait a while to see if there is a new Mac Mini. It is a great concept, and I would love to buy one, but you are paying the same price as you would have done 2 years ago for the same hardware, when the price of the components has gone well down!

Don't get the Mini now: over priced for what it is at the moment unfortunately.

As your pro'lly aware there is a lot of chatter about new iMacs/Mini's so I'd hold on for a while yet .

Regarding the iMac, I wouldn't bother for what you've said you'll be doing( hooking to TV) just hold on for the (hopefully soon) updated Mini, 'more sound for your pound' as long as they keep them at roughly the same price point , but again this is Apple so who knows?

Bottom line : hold off for a while, if you can and get the refreshed Mini, tis a superb computer when they first came out , just a damn shame they haven't seen an update in over 2 years!. Way better than an iMac IMHO especially if you have a screen etc

I know I'm holding off for one ..I almost pull the trigger on a white macbook every day I'm that in need of a everyday Mac but just can't bring myself to do it ( but I might if the mini doesn't see an update by mid March)
I love the Mini , great computer ...or could be
