Good evening guys.

I'm a graphic designer currently living in Mexico and I had an older Mac Mini (midl 2012 model if my memory doesn't beat me) who went kaput about almost two years ago and now I have the chance of finally buy a new Mac maybe this upcoming february but I'm torn because I don't know if should wait and buy an iMac (my dream) or a new Mac Mini. Thing is is that I'm on a bit of rush because the computer I'm working with is VERY old (using Windows 7 here guys) and I'm always in awe that this thing is holding well but at the same is kinda stressing to know that without any previous warning it can crash too. Forever.

At the moment I'm very decided on buying a new Mac mini and that's it. I use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop A LOT, some medium work with InDesign and I have a very solid chunk of fonts so I manage them with a font manager (not adobe sorry, I like to have my fonts locally), but I also work a lot with Excel (I'm starting a tourism company here in Cabo) and do a bit of work of basic web design, zoom meetings with LOTS of screen sharing with clients.

If I buy the Mac mini with the new chip, will it behave smoothly with only 16 gb RAM for my line of work? (I just knew an hour ago that the Mac mini is not user-upgradeable), if not, how can I improve it? Any external trick maybe? Also, a recommendation for a nice solid monitor with stable colors and user-able calibration it's welcome.

OR, wait for the new iMac but the disadvantage that there's no certain launch date for that new future iMac with M1 chip. If you have any suggestion here or any input whatsoever I'm all eyes.

Oh, and they ain't cheap, the processor shortage is real and no joke :(.

Thanks!!!

Can you buy a used ~2018 model Mini to use, which you can sell once Apple releases your dream iMac??

The M1 MacMini will blow your socks off. 16GB of RAM will. be ample. Get the mini and treat yourself to a nice big display and you'll still have some change left from that and the difference between the price of an iMac.
