Need to upgrade my my first generation SE, and was wondering which way to (especially as I wasn't planning on upgrading at this time). 2nd Gen SE, iPhone 11 series or iPhone 12 series?

The 12's are a bit out of my budget, but the 11's are doable. Of course, there's the SE 2nd Gen, which I'm thinking of, not only due to the price, but because I'm still partial to my original SE.

So, if down to the 11's or a SE 2nd Gen, what's the forum consensus (there's also the XR, but it seems a lot of people don't seen too and of them). Although the better optics of the 11 would be nicer, it's not a dealbreaker.

The 11 is awesome you would be happy

Then there's the 2nd SE which is affordable and is great for the current iOS

The 12 is the newest of the three and definitely fluent with future updates

I would go with the 11 I would be more comfortable knowing I can have the phone for the next coming years

Maybe the original SE is best for you.

SE 2nd gen and 11 have same internals so I expect they have the same number of firmware updates remaining.

11 gives you FaceID, bigger display, better camera and battery life.

SE2 gives you TouchID, smaller size and lighter weight (nice so it doesn't drag down your shorts during summer). At least for me, SE2 is much easier to use single-handed.

Either way, both are good choices. Just depends on your preferences and priorities.

I would recommend – no joke – a refurbished 8+, which is selling right now for $379 (64GB) / $509 (256GB), and is a fantastic phone with good ol’ Touch ID and a warm and well-tuned LCD screen with just the right dimensions. All three colors are available! ;)

I’d think the SE might be a better option for not much more money at all…

Quick and dirty:
Want the smaller phone/TouchID? 2020 SE
Want the best battery life and great camera? 11
Want good battery life and don't care about camera? XR

iPhone 11 is a good phone. You can go for it. However, iPhone 11 does not have 5G. If you are going to keep your iPhone for many years, you might want to think about it.

going from 1st gen SE to an 11 will be a shock.
The 2nd gen SE is a great phone too, and is a more incremental size increase.
Go to an apple store and check out the sizes. It makes a difference.

I would wait till September :)
Or September of 2022? My advice is to not play the wait for next model game if it’s not eminent. And if the 12 is out of the posters budget then the 13 most likely will be.

If you got the urge to update the 11 is a solid choice that will last you for quite some time. Any newer options will just have the usual incremental upgrades and 5G isn’t a selling factor for real world usage on a phone.
