I am looking for a status tool that will ping or handshake with servers and URL's at specific intervals to make sure they are up and running. Anyone have ideas? Something that will run in the menu bar would be great.

Why not write a simple terminal script and use Geek Tool to have it give you a "menu bar" item.

Hi Steven,

I am looking for a similar solution and am currently exploring:

http://homepage.mac.com/duling/halfdozen/Smokeping-Howto.html

or this one looks pretty amazing and is open source pre-compiled:

http://www.zabbix.com/features.php

I am getting these tools from:

http://sixrevisions.com/tools/10-free-server-network-monitoring-tools-that-kick-ass/

Maybe this will be useful to you as well...?

If you come up with something else, PLEASE post your results... would be very interested in seeing what others do.
