I'm running OSX 10.2.8. My hubby was supposed to format one of my hard drives and accidentally formatted the WRONG one and now I can't open any classic apps NOR can I find my 9.x CD! can someone help me? I am having horrible computer luck over the past few days.... Ugh

newbie, go easy on me. I'm not technically inclined, but I'm a hard core 13 year Mac owner and I won't use ANYTHING else.

To clarify, when I try to open a classic app, I get the error message:

Classic Startup found no system folder on the boot volume from which to start classic.

See your documentation for instructions on installing Mac OS 9.1 or later.

Of course, there isn't a trace LEFT of 9.x on my computer...

well this is a quandry...

technically, OS 9 is not public domain-- apple no longer sells it, but it's illegal to distribute. and, since it's technically piracy, it's forbidden to directly discuss methods of obtaining it on this site.

that said, there are many legal ways to get it, ebay or any number of resellers still stock it. you could theoretically also find it on a P2P program, however it's very large to download, and you'd need to burn it to a CD, then install from there.

sorry, i know this isn't what you want to hear-- but this isn't easy. my advice would be to buy a copy on ebay quick, and have it shipped quickly. if you're good with P2P, or willing to learn (there are a multitude of programs/networks, it can be confusing), and you have a CD burner, then theoretically downloading it would work for you.

Thanks for the advice- Wow , have I got a lot to learn. I've never downloaded a song. movie, or anything off the net but have read about it and was put under the impression that it's not technically piracy if you download something you already have or HAVE had, but apparently that info was wrong.

I will look around and see what I can find. Since I've read about all the people being sued for illegal downloads, I'm not going to be doing that. I think I'll check ebay. If I don't have any luck, maybe if I called Apple they could give me some advice?
