One of my work apps is no longer on the App Store. I've backed up my iPhone 6 and did an iTunes restore on the iPhone 7. The app is not on the iPhone 7.

Looking on the internet on how to transfer a single app reveals a lot of articles with methods that seem to no longer work in iTunes 12.5.

With the iPhone 6 connected to my PC, I have chosen to transfer apps to this PC, but the folder where the .ipa files should be is empty (...MobileApplications). So, I'm not sure why that doesn't work.

I found an app called iMazing that is supposed to transfer apps, but it wants me to turn off "Find My iPhone" to restore the app and restart the iPhone, which I don't trust doing on this app (although the app does seem to be legit).

Ideas how to get this one app from my iPhone 6 to my iPhone 7?

Thanks!

Have you tried app store-> Updates-> Purchased-> Not on this iPhone-> search for app? I think I have pulled old apps like this but not certain.

If your iPhone 6 is running iOS 8 or later (which it should), you can no longer transfer apps from phone to PC due to iOS app thinning.

Basically you're out of luck. There's no way to transfer the app.

Yup, there's basically no way for an iPhone 6 to run anything earlier than iOS 8.

Not sure what "app thinning" is, but that sucks that apps that actually run fine on iOS 10 I can't put onto a new iPhone. +1 for Android OS, -1 for iOS on that issue.

Thanks for the heads-up.

App thinning is an iOS feature that your phone will extract necessary parts from the app to run on your iPhone 6, and delete the rest of the assets and code written for other iPhones and iPads to save storage space.

The reason why you can't transfer now is because your iPhone no longer has the full version of the app.

I have done the not on this phone technique as described and it pulled an app that I had deleted a couple of years ago that wasn't in the app store any more

I tried that technique, but the app was not listed on my iPhone in the App Store under Purchases/Not on this iPhone.

I also tried removing it from my iTunes App library, then connect my iPhone 6 and do the transfer purchases, but it didn't work either.

Thats weird I tried it on my 4s and was able to pull up one thats no longer on app store (but that could be because it is a 4s) when my 7+ comes in I will give it a try to see if I can repull it. Question though you said work app is it an app from the company you work for or just an app you do work on? If it is an enterprise app it might play under different rules.

No, it's not a custom app. It was an app I purchased years ago--an IP database tool, for keeping track of computer inventory and IP addresses. I have some clients on it and I can certainly find other stuff, but this little app was great and I have lots of data in it that I refer to occasionally. Give it a shot when you get your 7 and see if it works.

From some of the responses above, it seems an impossibility to get it back on my iPhone 7.

It seems the only place my app exists is on my iPhone 6, and with no way to get it off, I guess I'm just screwed.

The authors web site no longer exists.

Whilst I am weary about using third party iTunes type apps. If you desperately need this app, you could try the free download of AnyTrans by iMovie and see if that works for you.

Hello ,

Have u found the solution?
I'm facing yr problem and searching solution now....

Unfortunately, no.

I'm searched more information on internet but still not found any solution for this case.

So hate apple why not allow users use existing apps even the apps unavailable in App Store.

That means we are still using old iPhone to run such apps

So you are concerned about an app that not only isn't available on the store but the developer has disappeared? It's no longer a supported app. Go find something else that does the same thing that IS supported (by developer and the App Store). Trust me you are MUCH better off going that route than continuing to use the old app. Maybe even do a "futureproof" solution like use Numbers or Excel.

Apple periodically purges apps that haven't been updated and/or developers are no longer responding. Updates are critical in the iOS world since most users update to the latest operating systems when available. More so than most other platforms. Without doing that, the impact to iOS can be significant. It's one of the reasons why Apple decided to add the 32-bit app warning when launching older apps. How long has 64-bit been available and Apple warned developers their apps had to be 64-bit?

I'm involved in IT of a somewhat large company where we have had issues moving from XP to Win7 because unsupported apps are "must haves" by our user base. Everyone is put at risk because of that. We eventually had to segment them off the network and limit where they could "talk". And how many times did Microsoft say they were no longer supporting XP?

1) Developer company has been disappeared.
2) Searched on web but not have same thing apps
3) Understand yr meaning due to me also work in IT field. But i think that Apple cannot stop user to use some apps.
The apps running smoothly on ios 10, why not allow user to use when switch the iphone ? I'm not agree their action.
