Please excuse me if this has been asked before, but I did not see any thread about it.

I have two Macs with standard USB 3.1 ports, and an iPad with its USB port. The iPad only has 32 Gig total space. There are times where it would be good for my wife to watch Korean videos on it, especially when we have a power outage (or on an airplane, whenever we can fly again). I could also use it to watch videos I like.

What I'd like to get is a flash drive that has two connectors. One is a standard 3.1 connector, and the other end would be the connector for the iPad. In this way, I could download Korean videos with my Mac, copy it to the flash drive, and then plug the flash drive into the iPad so that the video (or videos) can be viewed. I would probably want to get such a drive that is either 128 gig or 256 gig in size.

I would appreciate some guidance/recommendations for such a device (assuming it exists).

You're in luck! :D

I bought this a while back. Works great. You might need an adapter depending upon what iPad you have. Works great on my iPad Pro.

There are a few options out there for these kinda flash drives, but they are pretty huge. I got this one from Kingston just because of the size and its working really well so far

Thanks.

Instead of a "dual" Flash Drive, wonder if this would be better:

With that device, I can plug in any "drive" with a USB 3 Connector (like the one that I use for my external SSDs, inside an Orico case), or a USB 3.1 Flash drive itself. That Apple connector also has a USB-C port, and thus can plug in the power cable for the iPad.

The power port on that Camera Adapter is Lightning, not USB-C.

Darn! Anyone know of a similar adapter which has a USB-C port?

The problem is that the target device - the iPad - is Lightning and few would mix the two connections. And be wary of 3rd party Lightning adapters - they can be notoriously fickle. The high Apple prices on these are irritating but you can count on them actually working.

Looks like we were posting at the same time, as I just added the question "Or does a Lightning-to-USB-C adapter exist that would work?" to my original post you responded to (thanks again!).

I'm confused. You have an iPad with USB-C connector, but total capacity is 32GB? I thought only the 2018+ Pro or the new Air 4 have USB-C port and those don't come in 32GB config. Or do you have an iPad with a lightning port? If you have an iPad with lightning port than you can buy something like an iXpand drive.

The model number of my iPad is MP2F2LL/A, and doing a google search shows that it has a Lightning port, and is 32 gig in capacity. The original adapter I posted above:

has the Lightning connector on one end, and two connectors on the other. But what exact types are those two connectors? Ideally, I'd like them to be a USB-3 one, and a Lightning one.

Maybe that is the wrong one, I need an adapter than contains 1) a USB3 port, so that I can plug in any of my flash drives or external SSDs, and 2) a Lightning port, so that I can plug in the iPads Power cord. Does such a device exists, or is a two adapter scenario possible?

That is the adapter you want - USB & Lightning ports on it. I was confused by the USB-C aspect, including the other adapter you linked to.

OK, I did receive the adapter yesterday, and plugged it in to my iPad. On one of the available ports, I plugged in a 64 gig USB 3.0 Flash drive. Downloaded VLC Media Player, and when I launched it, it said "USB 3.0 FD: This accessory requires too much power". So, I connected the iPad Power Adapter to the other port, plugged it in, and now it says "Empty Media Library"! That I know already. I thought this version of VLC would behave the same as the one on both of my Macs, but apparently not.

So, is there an app for the iPad that I can download that will read the information on the flash drive, whether or not the power adapter is plugged in?

If the problem is that the drive needs additional power, another app would have the same issue as VLC if that additional power is not supplied - the drive is essentially inaccessible without the power.
