Need to reformat harddrive

My Mac mini is stuck in a installation screen for Lion Preview. It won't let me boot from disc, it barely lets me boot at all. Just stays stuck on the black screen before booting up.

How can I do complete wipe of this harddrive and install snow leopard?

I have the installation disc, I also have it on an external hd.

Not worried about losing everything, just need this thing to run again.

Please help

what is on your external hd a superduper clone a carbon copy clone?

Have you ever booted with it? if so just power down the mini plug everything in and boot the mini will look for a bootable hdd and in a minute or two it will use the external hdd to boot. Now if your external hdd is a time machine backup you will need the software disc and it is slower.

When I try booting it doesn't do anything. And the few times it does do something it just starts up trying to install lion. Without giving me the option to boot from disc or external

I've tried to hold c
Or hold option
Or even option command shift delete
none work

When i turn the mini on I don't get the chime or my tv doesn't change. It stays black. But I can hear the mini trying to do something
