Hi I wonder if anyone could help with this issue. I have a genius appointment on Monday and Im thinking my daughters phone is going to be replaced. She is running the beta iOS and I know it can be an issue when you try and restore from a different software version. The backup that we have is 10.2.1 beta 4 and she will be unable to do a hard backup (teenager too big for the cloud) before the appointment. Is there anything we can do if the sw version is updated before she gets the new phone as I imagine the new one will have 10.2 on it ?

Thanks in advance.

If you don't have the space for a backup, what are you going to restore then?
If you find the space for a backup, you will simply update the new phone to the current release you're using on the phone now and restore.

I had to do this a few days ago. First, set up the new phone as a new device, then download the beta profile, update to the latest version, then restore the phone from the latest backup.

If you are in-store, Apple may be able to help you do a hard backup on one of their machines, but it may be worth it to pay $0.99 and get a larger iCloud allowance for a cloud backup before you go in. If the cost is prohibitive, you can cancel before the month is up and avoid the recurring payment.

May be a good time to go through and delete things you don't need, too... My kids have HUGE iMessage sizes due to the number of pictures that go back and forth that they don't care about anymore...

Is the phone physically damaged or is there something else going on with it?

If the issue is anything other than physical damage, the Apple Store may tell you that they can't service it because it has the beta on it.

Thank you for all your replies. We do have space on her iMac but she will not be back to it till after the appointment. The phone (iPhone6) is suffering from the "powering off at 30%" problem. Unfortunately AppleCare ran out in November. I think I will increase her iCloud storage even though she already has 50G and then go though the iMessage and photos. Thanks again

Before you go in for the reservation, talk to AppleCare support. Either call them or download the Apple Support app and chat with them.

The unexpected shut down issue is related to a specific range of serial numbers on 6s phones. There was a manufacture's defect in the production of the batteries for the effected 6s phones.

If you have a 6, it won't qualify. It is, however, very likely that the phone's battery is consumed at this point. AppleCare can run that diagnostics and tell you if the battery is consumed or not.

I wouldn't expect a replacement. I would expect them to offer a battery replacement for $79 if it is out of warranty.
