My computer was iMac was stolen. I have replacement. I logged into iTunes on the computer with my iTunes/apple ID that I had with the stolen computer (changing the password of course).

When I plug my iPhone in it doesn’t try and auto-sync, and I have to open iTunes manually

The phone appears as the correct iPhone in the device column on the left, and when I double-click on it, opens the normal box with a correct summary about the phone but doesn’t want to sync the data off the phone back on to the iMac (I get told I will lose all the data from the phone).

How can I get the new copy of iTunes to want to sync with the phone in a normal fashion?

Do I need to restore the phone to do this? (and just accept that my data will be lost? I'm reluctant to try to restore it for fear it may brick my phone.)

You didnt happen to use Time Machine for your backups did you?

No, but I bought a timecapsule with the replacment computer, which is in a seperate room out of view backing up my data.

I had a standard external hard drive connected to old iMac with files backed up on it, when they stole my computer then tossed the HD out the window! I found the hard drive but it dosn't mount anymore :-(

Good luck.

Cheers,

What really sucks was i have some videos on my iPhone (made in iMove) from a recent family holiday that I don't want to loose and hence not want to sync the phone and loose it.

I'm not sure if back up the phone then restore from backup will fix it. may have to try this.
