The left side of my keyboard and keyboard surround are bowed up and I'm concerned the left hand side keys are hitting the screen when its closed. I want to have a Genius look at it and hopefully replace the top panel and keyboard. Should a schedule an apointment or just show up? Also, is the top panel something they can do on site or will it need to be shipped out?

ALWAYS schedule an appointment if you can. Otherwise they will just have you schedule one when you walk in and you'll be standing around for 45 mins... unless you have a barren Apple store in your town.

Most likely they will not replace the keyboard/bezel in house, but will ship it out for repair.

Follow up to my original question....

If they do indeed send it out to their repair fascility, what are the odds I'll get it back messed up (I've read the horror stories on this forum and if I get my two month old $2500 laptop back damaged, I'm going to be pissed)? To that end, would it be worth it to replace the panel myself at my own expense to prevent possible damage? I know its still covered under warranty, I just really don't want to deal with some meat head scratching the crap out of my computer, especially since my screen has no yellow and I have no heat issues at all (assuming Applecare would replace the computer IF damage occured). Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.

If the laptop is still under warranty Apple should fix it if something is wrong.

If you're concerned about scratches happening during the repair process, snap a few photos with timestamps before you drop it off, and then if there is any damage as a result of the repair then you have the photos to show.
