I just bought my books from college (BU) earlier today; this is going to be my first semester of college. Along with the books I had to buy for intro to computer science (my majors are computer science and math) 2 cds came with it. Both have to do with MS Visual C++ 6. Now I have no clue if there’s anywhere I can get this or if they even have it for mac os x. I have never programmed anything but web programming (php, html, java script...) so I really dont know ALL that much about C++. So what I need to know is if Im gonna NEED to buy vpc and windows, I really am looking for any alternative here.

I would ask the instructors whether a substitution is possible.

I found that only one of my classes required MS VC++ so I could use gcc (part of the developer tools) for all of my other assignments.

Yes, to run it, you'll need Virtual PC.
