I'm looking for opinions on my newly formed site PetGrowth. I think I need to strengthen the logo a little bit more, but not sure exactly where to go with it. Any suggestions about content, layout, ect. are welcome. Thanks for taking a look.

All in all it looks good, and informative (I never knew those things about goldfish!). Anyway, the only thing I would change is possibly the logo - try maybe use the current colour scheme to make it complement the rest of the page.

Heres a quick photoshop of what I was thinking of:

As opposed to your current one:

Keep up the good work mate! :D

Good idea adom I also think that you should make the purpose of the arrows after the 'home, forum, help...' thing clearer.

Those are good suggestions. I would adjust the blue a bit in the logo to compliment the blue in the background. I say this because you have four different blue colors going on in the page. (at least on my screen) Too many if you ask me. But I really like putting the logo in the box.

I would also put the logo at the top left of the page- that is where you want eyes to begin...also would bring more attention to the left side of your page (aka- more clicks on your ads!!)

Maybe there is some way to utilze the clouds more? Perhaps you could just put the logo at the top on a plain background...then maybe you could make a few banners to put just below it that involve pictures of animals...ie a fish tank shot, pic of a dog, etc. If it constantly changed it might make it more exciting for pet lovers.

Better yet, have visitors submit photos for a photo journal part of the top of the page...or better put it at the bottom so they scroll the entire page to find it. I am thinking a photo journal section like on this web page.
http://www.mountwashington.org/ (If you click on photo journal title you get lots of recent pics.) All pet lovers like looking at other pet pictures as well as showing off their own!!!!

I like the navigation bar at the top- just make it slightly larger.

I would also find six or eight pet lovers who are willing to post once a day to start building up your forum. I like the layout of the fourm and you have clearly divided up the sections to be easy to find.

You might make the type for the "did you miss the activation email" a little smaller and the welcome a bit bigger.

Great idea for a pet lover web site- good luck!

That is the first of what I hope to become many informative articles. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the ideas I changed the colors a little bit, I still need to work out a few small things. But it think it fits much better now.

I really like the idea of having user photos somewhere near the top that could attract more people. Good idea about moving the logo too. I find that finding members to join is the toughest part, but I knew it would be. I was thinking maybe having a member spot light every month or so, but not sure of the details yet. Thanks agian for all the suggestions.

If you simply put out some flyers on pet store bulliten boards around where you live and got some of your posters to do the same that would help I would think.
Maybe an inexpensive mailing to pet stores around the country would help- pet stores always have boards for posting small flyers, etc. All you need is a little momentum to build with posting and you will be off and running. I wonder if there is an online pet "web site ring" that you could belong to?

I like it...

..but it is very wide and doesn't resize well in smaller browser windows, it hides the "Recent/User/Stats" section instead.

Also the ^v buttons by the navigation don't have much use and I found them a little confusing. I know they hide the menus but what's the point in doing that? because it doesn't create any extra usable space.

I'd say thats a feature u could just remove and nobody would miss.

in your title pet growth, don't keep the text the same color as the background behind it..i would use like a light yellow or something. lighten it up a little more because it's dark and tends to just fade out of view...it doesn't stand out and make my eyes look at it first. looks like you did a really good job with the site and the color scheme is really nice. i think there is a little too much white space in the top left corner and i would move the welcome guest text to that side for an interesting look

Looks better mate. Good luck for the future with the site - Im sure it may appeal to the masses!

I like it. Its easy for me to follow, the color scheme is nice, yet not distracting. And it is extremely informative. You've got a really great site going here.

But I would try to work out a way to either make the page scale to browser width, or at least take the horizontal scrollbar off of the page itself and make it part of the browser. I was at first confused because I couldn't figure out how to see the information on the right until I hit the bottom of the page and saw that there was a scrollbar as a part of the page.

Other than that, I really liked it. Good work!

The site looks great.

Could I suggest a bit more white space to make it not as busy. You could integrate the logo bit into the header too.

But that said, looks like a very promising site.

I was able to do a lot of work on the site today. Not everything but a nice chunck. I was able to fix a lot around the site.

I found a nice way to resize the goldfish image with the width of the block, the scroll bar at the bottom should be better now. I also removed those arrow to minimize areas, the only areas that are collapsable are forum categories.

I appriecate all the feed back, I still haven't had a chance to work on the logo again. Thanks for all the possitive comments also, I really appreciate them.

I think it is looking really nice. I hope I wasn't too critical- I love the idea and think you are doing a good job on it. I wish you all the luck. I have a few friends who work at our humane society and are very active in the animal world so to speak. She trains dogs, takes inn strays for the HS, teaches classes. I will see if she can pass along the site to others.

I have more visual thoughts on the site once you get more time- dont want to bog you down too much right now!:D

Hi what you have done is good but i agree with what Butters wrote. I think that the page is too wide and you could do with bringing in the margin. To my eye it is a bit to wide and it looks a bit unbalanced.

No you weren't too critical. I really appreciate the help. I posted at a few other site I frequent and they didn't help at all. Thanks for trying to spread the word too.

Alright time for another little update. I played around with the logo colors once again. For those who said the site was too wide, is this any better?

This is how it is currently

This is a new version breaking up the width a little.

Thanks for all the feedback and compliments, you all are very helpful.
