What I want most is the ability to watch my movies (most of which are Divx avi's) on my flatscreen, preferably over WiFi.

Can Boxee stream media files (with a buffer) from the source, or does it copy them to the ATV hard disk? Actually I'm only about 50% certain that Boxee plays your avi files at all (?).

I have 802.11g running about as fast as it gets, but would upgrade to an N-router if necessary.

I'm debating between ATV + Boxee or another hardware multimedia player (don't know which one) that could stream content from a remote HD.

Just looking for the best solution, preferably around the $200 or under line.

Western Digital's new machine ($99) has got me thinking about all this, though that one doesn't have any network connection.

Thanks for all help!

SWEET! I was hoping to use ATV.

One more Q: can you add disk space to an ATV by plugging one into the USB jack?

I read (quite some time ago) about how to swap out the internal drive in it for a larger one.

No, unfortunately you cannot just plug in a USB drive and have it work with the ATV. If you want to increase the drive space you need to hack the box.

Can Boxee play all AVI files (Divx, Xvid etc) no matter what codec they use or are there limitations? Is Boxee for Mac what TVersity is for PC?
