Net Share Question

I managed to get NetShare when it used to be available on the App Store, but I've always been reluctant to use it, being afraid of violating the TOS with AT&T.

Does anyone regularly use this, and if so, have you seen anything ridiculous on your bill or heard anything about causing any problems?

Again I'd love to be able to use the App since I paid for it, but I want to make sure it's not causing any more charges to show up.

To the OP just do not exceed the 5 GB monthly limit.

I have no idea if it is broken in the UK I am too lazy to try it out right now maybe somebody else could chime in here? If they did disable it then I want my money back for it.

I believe this is true so it is just if you go beyond your monthly limit it would be a problem. I would use my limit up to 100 MB of my limit every month if I were the OP. If ATT says anything at all they can hardly confront anybody about an app that was bought legitimately through Apple. I think so few people have Netshare it doesn't matter that much anyway.

If somebody jailbroke and didn't get Netshare from Apple that could be traced (ATT contacts apple and asks if you downloaded Netshare) and then I would be much more cautious. You bought an app and did nothing wrong in doing so, as that is the case enjoy it up to the maximum limit under your terms of service.

mine is no longer working. I can't get the phone to display the "fan" icon showng t is cnnected to my ad hoc wi-fi network

Yes they have. They know when a cell is tethered. If you don't hog a lot of bandwidth, they'll probably let it go, but if you start downloading like crazy... expect a bill.

Mine has been working perfectly too. I bought it before I had a phone and ever since I got the phone I didn't think that there would be a real world scenario where it would come in handy, but I was wrong and have used it more than once.

While this may be true if they look at the detail of your usage it won't take a genius to know that the data used on the computer didn't come from the iphone. My normal iphone data usage is always less than 1mb for each time I use data. When I tethered for 5 minutes the data usage was 15 times the amount the iphone would have used but I guess if you stay under 5gb they won't look at the detail.

Seeing as the restriction only applies to tethering..which isn't even natively supported by the iPhone...are there still terms on this?

I can only imagine them saying "No tethering" but I don't see how the iPhone can have a limit on tethering when there isn't even a tethering plan for it yet.

Of course...I only did a quick view of the TOS and I couldn't find much about tethering. I did find out that our data is unlimited for normal usage.

If you read the (ATT) TOS, you are allowed to tether via authorized apps. Being that you bought the app via the store on your phone, they will not be able to stop you from using it.
If your app stops working, I would advise getting a refund. They can't charge you for the app and then disable it.

Now everything makes sense. A lot of people just post garbage...OMG 5GB cap..OMG YOu are gonna get overages.

I wish I had gotten this app.....I mean I would hardly tether but it is nice just knowing you have the ability to if the need arises.

You signed their terms of service. That is separate to the phone usage. What Apple says and wants doesn't mean anything to at&t since you are using their network. They make the rules. They don't allow tethering, which is why it's not available on the app store anymore.

Once at&t put out authorized tethering, you will see them clamp down on unauthorized use.

I made sure to grab this app at the app store while it was out because I knew it would probably be removed again like it did the first time.
I'm waiting for my new MBA to come in and I will be trying NetShare out, and hopefully it works out. I mean, I think NetShare should be used in important situations, not for everyday use. If there's a WiFi spot near by, take advantage of it.
But if the app doesn't work, how would I get a refund? Do I go to NullRiver who made the app, Apple, or AT&T?
